SRU men cruise to 72-51 win
SLIPPERY ROCK — Cornelius Brown, a senior center for the Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team, did what he did best Tuesday night at Morrow Field House.
Brown grabbed 11 rebounds and scored 19 points to record his sixth double-double of the season in a 72-51 non-conference win over Daemen (N.Y.) College.
Brown’s double-double has him tied for the most in NCAA Division II. Chaquille Pratt also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for SRU (4-3).
Malcolm Richardson led The Rock, which led 35-23 at halftime, with a game-high 20 points. SRU will take on West Chester Friday on the road.
Women’s basketballSRU’s suffocating defense put a stop to Ohio Valley Wednesday night in Vienna, W.Va.The Rock limited the Fighting Scots to 28.3 percent (15-of-53) from the field in a 69-50 win. Audrey Stapleton led SRU’s offense with 15 points, while Lexi Carpenter added 12.The Rock, which improved to 5-3 on the season, built a 17-8 lead in the first quarter and led 32-21 at halftime.SRU is in the middle of a five-game road trip and will next play Friday at West Chester.
