George Patterson
George L. Patterson, 93, of Grove City, passed peacefully Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, in AHN-Grove City.
George was born in Sandy Lake Township, Mercer County, on March 1, 1928, the son to Henry and Mary (McAnallen) Patterson.
George grew up in Stoneboro and at the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served at Pearl Harbor where he worked in communications.
After serving in the military, he met and married his wife, Irene Jane Kelly, of nearly 71 years on March 16, 1951.
George retired from Cooper Energy Services where he was employed for 40 years, and he was an auctioneer in the area for more than 40 years.
George was a member of the North Main Street Church of God, Butler. He loved the church and served the church in various capacities. He was a greeter, usher, and served on the board of directors.
George was an avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed fishing in Erie with his son and grandsons.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; a daughter, Cathy Fritz, and husband, Richard, of Grove City; a son, Jeff Patterson, and wife, Joan, of Hagerstown, Md.; three grandsons, Chris (Kathleen) Chambers, Craig (Crystal) Chambers and Greg (Jess) Patterson; and 10 great-grandchildren.
His parents, a sister, Betty Snyder, and a brother, Walter “Pat” Patterson, preceded George in death.
PATTERSON — Visitation for George L. Patterson, who died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.Thursday at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at North Main Street Church of God, 1201 N. Main St. Ext., Butler.
Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake, Pa.
