Butler grad Bocci shines at PSAC meet

YORK — Butler graduate David Bocci, a freshman at Clarion University, took one first place and two seconds at the PSAC Swimming Championships over the weekend.

Bocci won the 200-meter butterfly in 1 minute, 49.80 seconds. He took second in the 200 individual medley (1:51.58) and 200 back stroke (1:50.11).

SR hoop teams in D-10 playoffs

Both Slippery Rock High School varsity basketball teams are preparing for District 10 quarterfinal playoff games this week.

In Class 4A boys action, No. 7 Slippery Rock (13-9) will face No. 2 Grove City (13-8) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Sharon High School.

In the Class 5A girls tournament, No. 2 Slippery Rock (12-8) will take on No. 7 Hickory (10-9) at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Mercer High School.

Mars’ Anderson homers in Pitt baseball win

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Mars graduate Jack Anderson hit his first collegiate home run Saturday in the first game of Pitt’s 12-2, 4-0 doubleheader sweep of Canisius.

Anderson had two hits, a walk and scored two runs in that first game.

SR grad Cessar wins swim title

ROCHESTER, NY — Slippery Rock graduate Barbie Cessar won the 200-meter breast stroke for Penn State Behrend during the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimming Championships Saturday.

Cessar swam the event in 2 minutes, 29.42 seconds, winning it for the third successive year.

Fukon helps Behrend win AMCC crown

ERIE — North Catholic graduate and Cranberry Township resident Kenny Fukon scored 16 points Saturday to help Penn State Behrend’s men’s basketball team defeat Penn State Altoona, 63-60, to clinch the league’s regular season championship.

Fukon added eight rebounds and five assists. He drained a trey with 35 seconds left to give the Lions (18-6, 13-3) the lead for good.

Three Butler Cubs boxers notch wins

Alioune Diassi, Paul Zalus, and Juan Hernandez all picked up victories over Ohio boxers in their bouts in Youngstown on Saturady.

Diassi (5-2) defeated Antwone Peoples by unanimous decision. Hernandez (1-0) downed Nate White by a second-round TKO. Zalus (4-1) beat Mark Rivers by decision after surviving a standing eight-count in the opening round.
