Bailey, Evans shine for SRU

Butler graduates Jasmine Bailey and Kennedy Evans ran legs on the winning Slippery Rock University women’s 400-meter relay as The Rock placed second at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships over the weekend.

The relay ran a time of 47.16 seconds.

Bailey also won a conference title in the 400 with a time of 57.04.

Bailey won the PSAC indoor title this winter in the same event.

Bailey was also second in the 200 with a time of 24.84.

The SRU 1,600-meter relay team of Bailey, Evans, Sabrina Anderson and Aerial Dukes was disqualified after a first-place finish when it was ruled a runner left her lane on one of the turns.

Other first-place winners for The Rock were: Kaitlyn Clark in the pole vault (3.63 meters), Paige Kassab in the high jump (1.69 meters), Sam Taylor in the javelin with a NCAA automatic bid distance of 12.70 meters and Anderson in the heptathlon with 4,951 points.

The Rock men were also second in the conference meet.

Slippery Rock High graduate Ryan Thompson had a pair of third-place finishes in the 800 (1:52.91 and in the 1,500 (3:57.80).

Adam Leeper won the triple jump (15.0 meters) for The Rock.
