South Butler school items may be upgraded
Antiquated clocks, grainy video from aging cameras, two rusty security doors and deteriorating flooring in three classrooms could be replaced with new versions in the South Butler County School District.
The school board on Wednesday night discussed the upgrades and board members are expected to vote on them next week.
Superintendent David Foley said the clocks at the intermediate elementary school are extremely antiquated.
He recommended the district purchase new clocks, which will be analog with batteries.
One main clock in the school's office will keep time, the date and other information updated from the internet, and all new clocks will use that information. The cost of the new clocks is $11,810.
The board also will be asked next week to approve an expenditure of $11,415 for two heavy security doors at the intermediate elementary school.
The doors, both of which lead outside, are in the nurse's office and main office.
Both are rusted and beyond repair. The administration is recommending that the A.G. Mauro Company provide and install the doors.
Roger Myers, director of technology, recommended the replacement of all security cameras with upgraded versions that provide clearer pictures and store video for three to four weeks.
“It's a really extensive project,” Myers said.
The cost for the motion-activated cameras, which Myers did not divulge but said equaled 2 mills in taxes, will be paid through two grants received by the district.
