SRU basketball teams swept at Indiana; BC3 women win

INDIANA — Slippery Rock University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams dropped road games Saturday at nationally-ranked Indiana (Pa.)

The Rock men (11-12, 7-10) trailed 56-28 at halftime and never recovered in dropping a 96-60 decision.

SRU’s women (6-17, 4-13) took a 77-48 defeat at the hands of the Crimson Hawks.

Micah Till paced The Rock men with 24 points and five rebounds. He sank five 3-pointers. Amante Britt contributed 15 points.

Malik Miller led the second-ranked Crimson Hawks (19-2, 14-2) with 28 points. Ethan Porterfield added 19 and Armoni Foster 18.

IUP 77, SRU (women) 48 — Brooke Hinderliter paced SRU with 23 points and six rebounds. She now has 1,649 career points, only 45 away from passing Kory Fielitz for second place in points scored in program history.

Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson scored 10 points and had 11 rebounds. She needs five rebounds to become SRU’s 17th member of the 500 point-500 rebound club.

Lexi Griggs led fifth-ranked IUP (21-1, 16-0) with 21 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Both SRU teams host Pitt-Johnstown Wednesday at Morrow Field House. The women’s game is at 5:30 p.m., the men’s game at 7:30 p.m.

Westmoreland CCC 107, Butler County Community College 104 — The Pioneers trailed by 10 with three and a half minutes left, rallied to take the lead, but missed some key free throws as Westmoreland forced overtime.

BC3 was outscored 17-14 in the extra session. Jake Slomers had 25 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists for the Pioneers while Julian Sanks scored 32 points and Andrew Yonker 29.

BC3 (women) 51, Westmoreland CCC 40 — Casey Kretzer led the Pioneers with 16 points. Michaella Roth added 15 and Skye Wessel 12.

Alexis Barnhart grabbed 14 rebounds and Jenna Heitzenrater 10 in the victory.
