SRU falls to UPJ in PSAC tourney

JOHNSTOWN — Slippery Rock University’s men’s basketball season ended Monday night with an 85-78 loss at Pitt-Johnstown in the first round of the PSAC Tournament.

SRU (15-14) rallied from a 16-point deficit early in the second half to take a 71-69 lead with 3:08 to play. Foul trouble plagued The Rock at that point.

Starters Micah Till, Lashon Lindsey and Amante Britt all fouled out late. Pitt-Johnstown (22-8) sank 12 of 13 free throws in the final 2:51 to pull away for the win.

Till was limited to 10 points in his final collegiate game, but ends his career ranked fourth on SRU’s career scoring list with 1,493 points in 73 games. He is the only SRU men’s basketball player to amass 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 100 steals, 100 blocked shots and 100 assists in a career.

Donovan Walker led The Rock with 27 points and five assists. Deontae Robertson contributed 22 points.

John Paul Kromka led the Mountain Cats with 19 points and eight rebounds while Josh Wise added 17 points.

Ian Grady won 34 games in his first two seasons as Rock head coach. That ties West Chester’s Damien Blair for most wins in the first two seasons among the 18 active PSAC head coaches.
