Butler woman dies of suspected drug overdose
A Butler woman died of a suspected heroin overdose late Friday afternoon.
Haley Leight, 20, died after eight days clean, according to her aunt, Nicole Leight.
Nicole Leight said her niece had been to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting Thursday, and afterward had spent the day with her mother and grandmother.
She speculated on what led to her niece’s relapse.
“I think her and her boyfriend got into a fight, an argument, and she left,” she said.
Nicole Leight and her family members hope that Haley Leight’s death can shed a light on the ills of heroin addiction.
“We’re just hoping that she didn’t die in vain and that it helps somebody,” Nicole Leight said. “I’m hoping that people get help, and I pray that she’s at peace, and I know she’s healed.”
Officials said Haley Leight's body was discovered in the apartment of a friend in the Lamar Village apartments in Butler. An autopsy was performed today with no definitive cause of death determined. Toxicology tests are pending, officials said.
City police are investigating.
