Band selection plays to venue offerings
MUDDY CREEK TWP — The Moraine State Park Regatta is bringing a fresh mixture of sail-setting sound to its entertainment this year.
“One of the things we're really excited about with our entertainment this year is there is a wide variety,” said Amanda Becker, regatta event coordinator.
Becker said the goal also was to match the best band for events surrounding that time slot.
She said the Dorals, Saturday night's headliner, are the perfect pairing for the Fireworks Finale by Kellner's Fireworks featuring Sirkus Dayz.
“Headlining Sunday is Jim Donovan & The Sun King Warriors, I think they're a really good match with the butterfly release,” Becker said.
Becker said even non-headline bands were correlated to events, like the band Doo Wop Shoppe which plays oldies hits.
“We feel that will fit really well with the car cruise especially,” she said.
Here are the bands scheduled:
12:30 to 1 p.m. — The Showbiz Kidz are a performance-based troupe that tours outdoor stages during the summer. The group's roster of children hail from the Keystone State Music Theater of Cranberry Township.1:30 to 2:30 p.m. — Time Tested is a Pittsburgh-based, five-man band that plays classic rock.3 to 5 p.m. — Angela Autumn is a Pittsburgh-based singer and songwriter who explores dark country and gritty jams.5:30 to 7 p.m. — The Derek Woods Band plays energetic rock-n-roll with a style derived from the 1960s and '70s, but with a new twist.8 to 10 p.m. — The Dorals of New Castle play rock and roll music across a spectrum of generations, including the 1950s, '60s and '70s and beyond. These yoga sessions will be both on the main stage and the education tent, and there will be a variety of yoga and tai chi workshops from different community partners.12 to 1:30 p.m. — The Doo Wop Shoppe will sing the DooWop sounds of the 1950s and '60s.4 to 6 p.m. — The Pittsburgh-based Jim Donovan & The Sun King Warriors bring almost three decades of experience. The band's lead man, Jim Donovan, is formerly a drummer for Rusted Roots, and co-wrote the hit song, “Send Me on My Way,” which is part of the wakeup music playlist for NASA's Mars rover. Donovan and his Warriors' latest album, We See Through It, extends the band's palette by offering songs constructed with a roots and rock base.
