SRU falls on road
CALIFORNIA — Naquil Jones scored a career-high 28 points Monday night, but the Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team dropped a 74-66 decision at California (Pa.).
The Rock (9-6, 5-4) had a six-point lead with 8:07 to play, but allowed a 23-5 Vulcan run over the next seven minutes that sealed its fate. The win marked the first conference victory for California (4-11, 1-8).
Merdic Green contributed 11 points and Christal Malalu 10 for SRU. Jones added eight rebounds and four assists.
Luka Andjusic led four California players in double figures, scoring 23 points and grabbing nine rebounds.

The loss dropped The Rock to 7-8 overall, 4-5 in the PSAC West.
The Vulcans (14-1, 8-1) scored 31 points off 21 SRU turnovers. Mallory Heinle and C.C. Dixon scored 13 points each for SRU while Cassidy Wright and Brooke Hinderliter scored 11 each.
Mikki Glenn scored 28 points, grabbed nine rebounds, had seven assists and six steals.
Both Rock teams return home to host Clarion tonight. The women’s game is at 5 p.m., the men’s at 7 p.m.
