SRU holds off Cal
Slippery Rock University’s men’s basketball team earned a key PSAC-West victory Wednesday night, surviving a defensive battle against California (Pa.) by a score of 52-44 at Morrow Field House.
SRU held the Vulcans to just 30 percent (15-of-50) from the floor.
Junior forward Vinny Lasley sparked the win with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Naquil Jones added 11 points for The Rock (12-10, 8-8).
Chris Pipkin’s layup with 56 seconds left proved to be the winning basket as Butler County Community College defeated Pitt-Titusville 89-86.
Garrett McHenry paced the Pioneers (7-16, 4-4) with 29 points and 14 rebounds.
Chris McConnell had 18 points, Pipkin 12 points and 10 boards and Brendan Record 11 points and six assists.
Women’s Basketball
SRU fell behind early and suffered a 79-55 loss to California (Pa.).
C.C. Dixon scored 11 points for The Rock (9-13, 6-10). Brooke Hinderliter added 10 rebounds.
While SRU committed 24 turnovers, Cal had just nine.
BC3 overwhelmed Pitt-Titusville 97-81.
Julia Baxter dropped 33 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for the Pioneers (12-8).
Tiana Schaffner added 14 points and Christina Davis 11.
