Pittsburgh police say two women have died following a crash involving a wrong-way driver on one of the city’s busiest highways.
Police didn’t immediately release the names of either driver — both 24-year-old women — involved in the crash on Route 28 near the 31st St. Bridge shortly after 3:30 a.m. today.
Police said the wrong-way driver was in a Kia that was traveling outbound from the city when it struck a Honda driving in the inbound lanes.
The Kia’s driver died at Allegheny General Hospital. The driver of the Honda was in critical condition, but died hours later.
Police temporarily closed the inbound lanes of the highway.

The Allegheny County district attorney is reviewing allegations that a police officer assigned to a suburban Pittsburgh school knocked the tooth out of the mouth of a 14-year-old student accused of stealing another student’s cell phone.
The student is represented by attorney Todd Hollis who earlier this year accused the principal of Woodland Hills High School, of threatening to punch a different student in the face over a disciplinary matter. The DA reviewed those allegations and declined to bring charges. The 14-year-old student in that incident was charged with illegally recording the principal.
Now Hollis is asking principal Kevin Murray and the officer to resign.
A DA’s spokesman wouldn’t comment on the review, but said its results will be shared with the FBI. The principal’s attorney said he did nothing wrong.
