[naviga:h3]Body identified as missing kayaker[/naviga:h3]

BEAVER — A coroner has identified a body pulled from the Ohio River as a second kayaker missing following an accident at a dam that also killed her friend.

Beaver County Coroner David Gabauer said Tuesday that he identified the body found Sunday as 25-year-old Helene Brandy based on “circumstances, demographics and partial dental records.” Rulings on the cause and manner of death are still pending.

Brandy and 25-year-old Brittany Evans were kayaking on May 20 when witnesses saw their kayaks plunge over the Dashfields Locks and Dam in Edgeworth. Evans’ body was found shortly afterward.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it will post seven additional warning buoys, something family members have called for.

[naviga:h3]Multiple 911 calls land man in trouble[/naviga:h3]

ALLENTOWN — Police say a man repeatedly called 911 while intoxicated because he was seeking conversation.

State police say Larry Keiser, 51, first called around 10:30 p.m. Friday because he wanted to speak with a police officer. He said there was no emergency.

Keiser called five more times, leading police to show up at his home in North Whitehall Township after midnight.

The man told officers he drank several beers because he was upset about a family situation. Troopers told Keiser not to call 911 again unless there was an emergency, and he said he would not call again.

Troopers say he called 911 the minute after officers left.

Keiser is facing charges that include intentionally calling 911 for other than emergency purposes.

[naviga:h3]‘Mafia’ threat cost woman life savings[/naviga:h3]

LANCASTER — Authorities say a woman has been scammed out of her $159,000 life savings by a man who told her she’d face Mafia retaliation if she didn’t give him money.

Attorney General Josh Shapiro says that man, 45-year-old Yancey Taylor, gambled away the money at casinos.

Taylor is from Donora, a Pittsburgh suburb, but the charges were announced Tuesday in Lancaster County where his alleged 69-year-old victim lived.
