[naviga:h3]Driver dies as car ends up in shop[/naviga:h3]

SPRINGDALE — Police said a driver suspected of being drunk sped away from a traffic stop and crashed moments later into a pizza shop and was found dead.

Allegheny County homicide detectives are assisting police in Springdale, the borough where the crash occurred, and East Deer Township, where police first tried to stop the driver about 1:40 a.m. today. Homicide Lt. Andrew Schurman said the driver fled the stop and East Deer police followed the vehicle, but didn’t chase it at high speed. Officers found the car crashed into From Italy Pizza, a restaurant just inside the border of nearby Springdale.

Schurman said the driver didn’t exit the vehicle before being found dead.

Police did not immediately release that person’s name.

[naviga:h3]Fired drug agent gets settlement[/naviga:h3]

ALLENTOWN — Recent documents made public show Pennsylvania’s former attorney general has paid $400,000 to settle a lawsuit by a former narcotics agent who claimed he was wrongly fired.

The settlement between former Attorney General Kathleen Kane and former Bureau of Narcotics Investigation agent Charles Horvath was made public Monday after a Right-to-Know request was submitted by The Morning Call.

In the lawsuit, Horvath alleged he was harassed for months before his firing after he reported a supervisor’s order to hide an informant’s drug use.

Neither side admits fault under the terms of the settlement, and Horvath’s termination is now a resignation.
