SRU 5th in region football rankings
SLIPPERY ROCK — Despite coming off consecutive losses, the Slippery Rock University football team is fifth in the first Super Region One rankings of the season.
The rankings were released Monday by the regional ranking committee. They will be updated and released each Monday for the rest of the regular season.
The top seven teams in the region at the end of the season will qualify for the NCAA Division II playoffs. Super Region One includes the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, Mountain East Conference, Northeast-10 Conference and Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
SRU is 6-2 on the season and hosts Clarion (1-7) at 1 p.m. Saturday for its final home game of the season. The Rock closes the campaign at winless Seton Hill and Kutztown (6-2).
Indiana (Pa.) leads the Super Region One rankings with an 8-0 record. The Crimson Hawks are followed by Assumption (7-0), Shepherd (7-0), Findlay (7-1), The Rock, West Chester (6-2) and Kutztown. Rounding out the top 10 are Notre Dame, Ohio (6-2), Shippensburg (7-1) and LIU Post (5-2).
