SRU's Martin Campbell award finalist
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University senior defensive end Marcus Martin has been named one of 13 national finalists from all levels of college football for the William V. Campbell Trophy.
The Campbell Trophy is presented to one graduating football player who is recognized as the best football scholar-athlete in the nation, regardless of division. The 13 finalists were named from 181 semifinalists.
Martin is the only Division II finalist and one of only two non-Division I finalists. As a finalist, Martin receives a minimum $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and an invitation to New York City to be recognized at the 60th annual National Football Foundation Awards Dinner Dec. 5.
Winner of the Campbell Trophy receives a $25,000 postgraduate scholarship, a trip to the College Football Awards in Atlanta and a trip to the College Football Playoff National Championship in January to be recognized on the field.
Martin owns college football’s all-time career quarterback sack record and his 90.5 career tackles for loss are 13.5 more than any other Division II player in history.
He will graduate in December with a degree in safety management and a minor in business administration. Martin owns a 3.56 grade point average after taking more than 120 credit hours entering this fall.
