CENTER TWP — Call it drugged driving déjà vu.

Just a month after arresting a Franklin Township man for allegedly driving on drugs, Trooper Philip Treadway arrested the same driver in the same car on the same road for the same offense.

Braxton L. Hilderbrand, 20, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on both cases of driving under the influence of a controlled substance in Center Township.

Treadway filed the latest charges Monday, accusing Hilderbrand of impaired driving Dec. 15 on Mercer Road. The trooper, police said, was using a hand-held radar device around 7:30 p.m. when he clocked him going 55 mph in a 35 mph zone near Blossom Drive.

Hilderbrand was pulled over and later allegedly failed field sobriety tests. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, according to charging documents, which showed the presence of marijuana and the antidepressant sertraline. The circumstances of that arrest were almost identical to Hilderbrand's arrest four weeks earlier.

Treadway, running radar on Mercer Road just south of Blossom Road about 8:40 p.m. Nov. 17, allegedly caught the defendant speeding, police said.

He allegedly admitted he had recently smoked marijuana, and was subsequently arrested for suspicion of driving on drugs. Toxicology results allegedly confirmed he had marijuana, as well as sertraline, in his system.

In the first case, police charged Hilderbrand by summons Dec. 12 with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, speeding, careless driving and three other traffic violations.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton of Chicora will arraign him Wednesday morning on those charges as well as similar ones in the recent arrest.

Online court records did not indicate if Hilderbrand has an attorney. He did not immediately return a telephone call Tuesday.
