SRU men's hoops wins 6th in row

Rock women top Millersville, 85-72

SLIPPERY ROCK — Micah Till had 20 points and 17 rebounds Sunday as the Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team stretched its winning streak to six games with a 96-65 non-conference triumph over Carlow at Morrow Field House.

SRU (8-2) pulled away by beginning the second half on a 19-4 run.

The double-double was Till’s fourth in a row and seventh of the season. Merdic Green led The Rock with 21 points while Khyree Wooten netted 14.

Aaron McDonald scored 13 points, had eight assists and grabbed seven rebounds. Bruce Spruell scored 10 points off the bench.

Tony Acrie paced Carlow (1-8) with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Charlie Scharbo had 14 points and 14 boards.

SRU won on the road Saturday at Millersville, posting a 90-78 victory to improve to 3-2 in the PSAC. Till had 27 points and 11 rebounds, McDonald 23 points and six assists, Brandon Simmons 12 points and 11 boards.

Wooten contributed 15 points and five assists.

SRU does not return to action until Dec. 19, hosting Ohio University Eastern.

SRU (women) 85, Millersville 72 — The Rock trailed by four entering the fourth quarter, but outscored the Marauders 31-14 in the final period to win going away.

Ciara Patterson scored 28 points, including five 3-pointers, grabbed six rebounds and had four assists. Morgan Henderson contributed 16 points, Brooke Hinderliter 15 and Madison Johnson 11.

Krista Pietropola scored 12 points and had five rebounds for SRU (5-4, 4-1), which hosts West Virginia Wesleyan at 5 p.m. Dec. 19.

Garrett Community College 88, Butler County Community College 80 — Joel Stutz scored 33 points for the Pioneers (1-10) while Brendon Record had 26 points and eight assists.

Josh Knochel scored 10 points for BC3, which trailed by 23 in the first half before whittling the deficit to 78-75 during the final 20 minutes.

Garrett CC 66, BC3 61 (women) — MacKenzie Craig scored 22 points and had 22 rebounds for the Pioneers (1-9), who led for most of the second half.

Carly Burdett scored 16 points, Lydia Roth had 13 points and nine assists, Madeline Schnur 10 points.
