SRU sets scoring record in victory

Rock women win, improve to 6-4

The Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team set a school single-game scoring record Tuesday night in its 143-70 victory over Ohio University Eastern at Morrow Field House.

The previous mark was 134, also set against OU Eastern.

SRU (9-2) has won seven straight games and does not return to action until Dec. 30, when it opens PSAC West play at Seton Hill.

All 10 Rock players who saw action Tuesday scored at least eight points and nine finished in double figures. Christal Malalu scored 25 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, De’Shae Lee had 18 points and 10 boards, Brandon Simmons 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Bruce Spruell scored 16 points while Richard Bivens, Tony Gates, Gabe Mack and Micah Till scored 12 each. Khyree Wooten had 11 p[oints.

Isaiah Green led OU Eastern with 16 points.

SRU (women) 71, W.Va. Wesleyan 67 — The Rock (6-4) won for the third time in its last four games. Ciara Patterson led the way Tuesday with 18 points and four assists.

Brooke Hinderliter added 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists, Madison Johnson and LeeAnn Gibson eight points each. Gibson, a Karns City graduate, also had six rebounds.

Mari Stewart paced Wesleyan with 27 points and 12 rebounds. SRU travels to Seton Hill Dec. 30.

Penn State Dubois 87, Butler County Community College (women) 60 — Mackenzie Craig scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds Tuesday night, but the Butler County Community College women’s basketball team dropped an 87-60 decision to Penn State Dubois.

Carly Burdett contributed 21 points and eight boards for the Pioneers (1-13). Lydia Roth had 14 points and seven assists.

Darienne Yates grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss.
