Phyllis Brown

Phyllis Brown

Phyllis Maxine Switzer Brown, 89, of Butler, formerly of Bruin, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 5, 2021, at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler.

Phyllis was born July 19, 1931, in Parker. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Alice and Paul Snow. Phyllis and her husband, Ralph, were loving caretakers to “Aunt Alice” for many years.

She was a graduate of Bruin High School.

Phyllis was a wonderful, kind and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking and canning vegetables from her garden, including her famous German sauerkraut.

Phyllis prepared the best holiday meals that always included her homemade bread. She was a jewelry connoisseur and was well-known for her sparkling blouses, many rings, red lipstick and manicured nails.

She loved country Western dancing and enjoyed socializing with her many friends at card parties. She was also a dedicated Girl Scout leader for many years.

Phyllis could have an engaging conversation with anyone. It was often said that there wasn’t a stranger Phyllis didn’t know. She was always in a positive spirit and her laugh was contagious.

Phyllis was a person of faith and lived life serving others. Heaven gained another angel.

Phyllis will be greatly missed by many.

She belonged to St. John’s Reformed Church in Meridian and was a longtime member of Martinsburg Church of Bruin, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Phyllis is survived by her three daughters, Gloria Raimond of Pompano Beach, Fla.; Rhonda Schwartz of Sedona, Ariz.; and Susan Zediker and her husband, Kevin, of Chicora; and one son, Dale Brown and his wife, Kelly, of Petrolia.

She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild on the way.

Survivors also include a sister-in-law, Barbara Shirey Brown of Bruin, and a stepsister, Faye Snow Stanley of Hudson, Fla., as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her loving husband and soul mate of 61 years, Ralph W. Brown, who passed away March 2, 2011, and her youngest son, Robert W. Brown, who passed in April of 1997.
