CENTER TWP — A Butler man who was injured in an accident around 8 a.m. Thursday was still listed in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon.

Robert McMahon, 62, of Butler was the driver of a Ram pickup truck who was severely injured in the three-vehicle accident, Trooper Shaun Milkovich of the state police said.

He was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital and then was flown in a medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.

An update on his condition was not available this morning.

Police said McMahon was driving eastbound on Unionville Road and ran the red light at Route 8, causing a crash with a Ford pickup truck that was southbound.

Two men who were working nearby reported that McMahon was ejected from his vehicle. They performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

The driver of the Ford truck, Blue Murray, 44, of Butler and a passenger in the truck, Dustin Geagan, 21, Butler, were extricated by firefighters and taken to Butler Memorial to be treated for minor injuries.

Murray and Geagan were both wearing seat belts, Milkovich said.

A Honda Civic being driven northbound on Route 8 also was involved, hitting the Ford pickup after the first collision. The driver of the Honda was James Eng, 63, of Fox Chapel, Allegheny County.

Police are still investigating the crash and treated the scene as if it had been a fatal accident.

“It was investigated as such, because of the severity of injuries,” Milkovich said.
