Paul D. Jones Jr.

Paul D. Jones, Jr.

Paul D. Jones Jr. of Callery, formerly of Kittanning went to be with the lord on Tuesday.

He was born July 22, 1930, to Paul D. Jones Sr. and Thelma Irene Rice Jones in Evans City. He leaves behind his brother, Carl (Mary Lou) Jones and his sister, Evelyn (John) Gandy.

Graduating from Evans City High School in 1948, he earned a letter in track and field, along with serving as the track manager. Paul later served as a school board member for Southwest Butler County from 1961 to 1979, serving two years as president from 1974 to 1975. He was privileged to serve alongside his sister, Mrs. Evelyn Jones Gandy.

Paul went on to work at Mine Safety Appliances in Callery for 53 years, retiring March 1, 2003. He stated that “working with a great bunch of people” was the secret to contentment in the workplace. Among those he enjoyed working with was his cousin, Mr. Archie Purvis.

Being a man of strong faith, he enjoyed serving the lord at the Union Baptist Church in Kittanning. You would likely find him on Wednesday evenings at Bible study. He spoke dearly of the congregation members who, to him, became a part of his extended family. He was a past member of the Crestview Presbyterian Church in Callery and the First Baptist Church in Evans City.

In his free time, Paul enjoyed spending time at his camp in the Allegheny National Forest. If there was a tree to be brought down, you could bet your stars Paul would be there. He was truly a great help to all who knew him.

Paul was preceded in death by his second wife, Doris Jean Wolfe; his third wife, Arlene Umbaugh; and his daughter, Patricia Ann Jones Spithaler.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his ex-wife, Irene Jones, and her loved one, Joe Dodd; his son, Richard Paul Jones and his wife, Maureen; Richard's daughter, Jamie (Robert) Sims and her children, Victoria, Dakota, Amber and Hunter; his daughter, Susan Kay Davidson and her husband, Barry; and his second son, John Paul Jones and his wife, Tammy, and their children, Kendall Lee (Mike) Chuk and William Lawrence Jones.

Kendall and Mike gave Paul two great-grandchildren, Lily and Benjamin.

Patricia's children, Crystal Sue (Chris) Huffman, Clayton Dean Spithaler and Shawn Michael Spithaler; and two great-grandchildren from Chris and Crystal, Kiersten Taylor Huffman and Nathan Michael Huffman.

Surviving from his marriage to Doris, two stepchildren, David Garis and Lorraine Swartlander; three grandchildren, Kimerly Jean Wright Saeler, Lindsey Garis and Christopher Garis; and six great-grandchildren, Rayna Johnson, Trei, Samara, Chance, Triston and Pyper Saeler.

Surviving from his marriage to Arlene, one stepdaughter, Debbie (Roger) Emmonds; two grandchildren, Lisa (Tony) Gonzalez and Todd (Melissa) Emmonds; and six great-grandchildren, Aiden, Brendan and Caitlyn Gonzalez, Carter, Cody and Avery Emmonds

Paul was a wonderful caring person who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
