Sarah “Sally” A. Ziegler Regal

Sarah “Sally” A. Ziegler Regal, 96, of Zelienople died Thursday at the Passavant Retirement Community.

Born Oct. 8, 1920, on the Gustavus Ziegler farm in Harmony, she was the first daughter of Ida Kaufmann Ziegler and Gustavus Adolphus Ziegler. She was also the first great-granddaughter of Abraham Ziegler, the Mennonite pioneer who purchased the town of Harmony from the Harmonites when they moved to New Harmony, Ind..

She attended school at the one-room Schantz School in Harmony and Zelienople High School, graduating in 1938. Sally also attended the Butler Business College, graduating in 1939. She met her future husband, Samuel F. Regal, there. Sally worked at Lava Crucible in Zelienople upon graduation from BBC.

Sam was home on leave from the U.S. Marine Corps in July 1943 when he and Sally decided to become man and wife before his upcoming overseas duty. After returning safely in 1945, Sam entered Grove City College. Their first child, David Franklin, was born there in 1947. They moved to Harmony after college, where they attended the Grace Church. A daughter, Vivian, was born in 1949.

Sally and Sam moved several times during their marriage, due to employment transfers. In 1952, Sam was transferred to the New York City headquarters of Consolidated, now Dominion. They lived in Cranford, N.J., and attended the United Methodist Church there. Two additional children, Karen and Daniel, were born in New Jersey. In 1974, the New York office was closed and Sam was transferred back to Pittsburgh. They lived in Ingomar, and Sam retired in 1986, moving them to Zelienople, joining the Harmony-Zelienople United Methodist Church.

Sally was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Abraham, Henry, Charles and Howard; and her sister, Mary Belle Forman.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Sam; her children, David and his wife, Patty, of Scotch Plains, N.J., Vivian Tedrow of Freehold, N.J., Karen and her husband, Tim, of Toms River, N.J., and Daniel and his wife, Molly, of Abbottstown, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

REGAL — The viewing for Sarah “Sally” A. Ziegler Regal, who died Thursday, April 20, 2017, will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Harmony-Zelienople United Methodist Church, 123 N. Pittsburgh St., Zelienople. Interment will be at the Butler County Memorial Park.
