Cal tops The Rock twice Wed.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Five players scored in double figures Wednesday night as the California (Pa.) University men's basketball team hung a 72-64 loss on Slippery Rock at Morrow Field House.
The loss marked the final home game of the season for The Rock (15-11, 4-9).
Maron Brown paced SRU with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Bryen Spriggs added 15 points and eight boards.
No other Rock player found double figures as the team shot just 31 percent from the floor, hitting 8-of-28 shots from beyond the arc.
Kelsey Williams paced the Vulcans (18-10, 6-7) with 14 points. Chad Tipton added 13, Andrew Young had 12, Rashawd Hatten had 11 and Joe Berenato had 10.
California had a 31-28 lead at halftime. The Rock never led in the second half.
Women
California (Pa.) 77, SRU 63 — Grove City High graduate Julie Molloy tallied 18 points and four assists on Senior Night, but could not prevent defeat.SRU (6-20, 3-10) never led in the first half, but trailed only 36-34 at intermission after closing the half on a 10-0 run.The Rock scored the first five points of the second half to claim its first lead and the teams went back and forth from there.Two Tynesha Lee free throws cut a Cal lead to 67-63 with 2:45 remaining before a Crystal Andrews 3-pointer sent the Vulcans (20-6, 10-3) on their way.Cheer' Marshall contributed 11 points for The Rock and Nikki Presto recorded a season-high eight assists.Brooque Williams paced California with 27 points and had eight rebounds. Kayla Smith added 21 points, 13 boards and six assists. Amy Johns scored 18 points.California enjoyed a 50-29 edge in rebounding.Both SRU teams conclude the season at Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday.
