SRU SOFTBALL

Knoch graduate Kirsten Brant hit her eighth home run of the season in the first game and Butler grad Jenna Geibel blasted her 11th homer in the nightcap, but the Slippery Rock University softball team was swept by Mercyhurst 5-4, 7-4.

The loss eliminated The Rock from the PSAC playoffs.

Brant's homer cut the Lakers' lead to one in the bottom of the seventh inning of the first game, but The Rock couldn't push another run across in the loss.

Geibel's blast in the second game put her in a tie for fourth place on the SRU career home run list. Geibel is only a freshman.

The Rock (22-19, 5-9) closes out the season Friday at California (Pa.) University.
