State police are investigating a one-car accident on Route 308 in Center Township Tuesday afternoon. The crash left a 3-year-old boy with a head injury. He was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. The driver, who is the boy's father, had cuts that were treated at the scene.

CENTER TWP — A 35-year-old father and his 3-year-old son were injured in a crash Tuesday afternoon resulting in the boy being taken by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.

Mike Iscrupe, assistant chief of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department, said the driver crashed around 2 p.m. as he was heading north along Route 308.

A patch of long grass showed where the driver veered off the road and into a tree in the front yard at 644 West Sunbury Road.

Iscrupe said it looked as though the car hit the tree hard and spun the vehicle around the trunk.

Iscrupe said the father and the son were outside the vehicle when his crew arrived. He said the father's arm had cuts which were bandaged, but the driver refused further medical attention.

Iscrupe said the boy suffered a head injury, which prompted emergency responders to call for a helicopter that flew the boy to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

“The child was in and out of consciousness,” Iscrupe said.

The portion of road in front of the house was closed to both lanes for more than an hour while state police talked with the driver and investigated the crash with a reconstruction unit.

Iscrupe said he did not know if the person living at the house was home during the accident or cleanup.

West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Service also assisted with the call.
