Bucs' Vasquez an all-star
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Pirate closer Felipe Vasquez was named to the National League All-Star squad Sunday night.
Vasquez, 27, was the only Pirate named to the team.
Acquired from the Washington Nationals in 2016, Vasquez will be returning there for Tuesday night’s All-Star Game. He is 3-2 with a 3.47 earned run average this season.
Vasquez has 18 saves in 22 chances — recording his 18th save Sunday against the Phillies — and entered that game with 48 strikeouts in 36.1 innings.
Vasquez was 5-3 with a 1.67 ERA and 24 saves last season.
