Siblings die in murder-suicide

A brother and sister from Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County, died in murder-suicide in their home early Wednesday morning, according to the county’s coroner’s office.

John E. Dufford, 59, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and his sister, Karen A. Dufford, 62, died from multiple gunshot wounds in the home they shared at 910 Route 356 in Allegheny Township, according to a report from the Westmoreland County coroner’s office.

The siblings were involved in a physical altercation that led to the shooting at 1:41 a.m., the report said.

John Dufford discharged a firearm striking Karen Dufford multiple times before shooting himself in the head, according to the report.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Allegheny Township police, Westmoreland County Detective Bureau and the coroner’s office investigated the incident.
