New Yorker rolls 900 series

The USBC is headed to New York to verify a 900 series rolled by John Martorella, Sr. of Greece, NY.

The 28-year old rolled the three perfect games during league play at Domm’s Recreaton Center. Martorella now has 15 career 300s. If approved, it will be the 20th sanctioned 900 series in the history of the USBC. Jeremy Sonnenfeld rolled the first perfect series in 1997.

Trivia

What PBA member is the only one in history to claim three consecutive Tournament of Champion wins? Answer at the end of the column.

Tip of the Week

Have you ever had one of those league nights during which you realize that your timing is off and everything in your approach is happening too fast?

It is very difficult to slow your approach down, especially when you have to think about it. Don’t fight it. Try shortening your approach.

Set up on the approach where you normally would begin. When you are set, take a half-step forward. This will force you to shorten your approach, and, hopefully help with your timing by matching your arm swing with your footwork. It takes some practice, and with the summer coming, now is the perfect time to try working on something like that.

USBC tourney continues

The USBC Championships are continuing in Baton Rouge, La. Here are the low-to-cash scores heading into this week. Scratch team: 2,638; doubles: 1,080; singles: 553; all events: 1,712. Classified team: 2,280; doubles: 936; singles: 470; all events: 1,481.

PSBA tourney continues

The Pennsylvania State Bowling Championships are continuing at Family Bowlaway and at Freeway Lanes. The event runs into June, so if you are looking to watch some quality bowling, visit these establishments.

Congratulations to the Butler County Bowling Association for once again helping to bring in millions of dollars into the county.

Couch, Stus inducted

Jason Couch and Gene Stus were inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame this past Saturday in Nevada. Couch was the Rookie of the Year in 1992 and is the only player to win three consecutive Tournament of Champions.

Couch has earned $1.6 million during his career. Stus made his living on the Senior PBA Tour, winning 11 titles, good for fourth all-time. Stus is the only Senior PBA player to roll a televised 300 game.
