Motorized bike, car collide on New Castle Rd.

BUTLER TWP — A man riding a motorized bicycle was taken to the hospital Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle. Butler Township Police investigating the scene said the man was taken by helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital due to a serious head injury.

Butler Township firefighters assisted Butler Ambulance in directing traffic and transporting the patient to a landing zone near the Butler schools down the road.

Police said the man was riding his motorized bike on the berm of the road along the westbound side of New Castle Road across from Point Plaza around 9:30 p.m. A westbound sedan turned into the KFC parking lot and the two collided.

A motorized bicycle has a small motor and transmission attached.
