Pens swing pair of deals
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins swung a pair of trades Tuesday, acquiring 6-foot-7 defenseman Jamie Oleksiak from the Dallas Stars and goaltender Michael Leighton from the Arizona Coyotes.
The Pens gave up a conditional fourth-round draft choice in 2018 for Oleksiak, who had a goal and two assists with Dallas this season. The 255-pound defenseman was a first-round draft pick of the Stars in 2011 and is 24 years old.
He is a restricted free agent after this season.
Leighton, 36, was acquired for Josh Archibald, Sean Maguire and a sixth-round pick in 2019. He is 4-4-4 in 14 American Hockey League games this season and has been assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL.
Leighton has played 110 NHL games over the years with Chicago, Nashville, Philadelphia and Carolina. He was with the Hurricanes for three years while Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford was GM of Carolina.
