A Pittsburgh man needed hospital treatment for injuries he says he got when a man attacked him with a knife late Saturday night in Butler.

But the alleged victim, 28-year-old Jamaal Cook, did not know his purported attacker and he was unable to provide investigators with much of a description of the suspect, according to city police.

Cook also was uncertain where the altercation happened, Butler police Deputy Chief David Adam said Monday.

Police were called about 10:40 p.m. Saturday to Butler Memorial Hospital where Cook showed up with cut wounds to the face, left arm and right forearm.

He told authorities, Adam said, that he was stabbed by a white man who had approached him and asked, “Where can I get some stuff?”

Cook said he tried to walk away but the other man apparently followed him. He recounted that when he turned around, the suspect assaulted him. The two men eventually exchanged punches.

Cook described his alleged assailant as being 6 feet, 3 inches tall, heavy set, and with a beard, Adam said.

But he said that he was not familiar with Butler and he could not say where he was attacked. He said that before being accosted he was walking to the 7-Eleven store, which is at Pillow Street and Hansen Avenue.

Adam said Cook went to an unknown house to get help from a man he claimed was his brother, who told police that the altercation may have happened on East Wayne Street.

The alleged victim was unable to take police to where the suspected attack occurred.

Adam said they have no suspects and the case is “closed” pending any new information
