While the boil order was lifted for customers in Butler and Center townships, Pennsylvania American Water crews dealt with a water main break in the city.

Gary Lobaugh, the company's external affairs manager for Western Pennsylvania, said testing revealed acceptable levels on Monday and Wednesday.

“We're back to normal,” he said of the 3-day boil order. “It's a resumption of normal service.”

Meanwhile, water crews found themselves surrounded by Butler Area School District students waiting for the bus on Wednesday morning.

The men surveyed a break in a 6-inch water main on Fourth Avenue near Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park.

Lobaugh said the line was more than 80 years old.

“It definitely lived out its normal life span,” he said.

About 40 customers on Fourth Street were without water as crews shut off the valve to repair the line.

The boil advisory was issued Saturday due to a loss in positive water pressure at a water storage tank in the City of Butler following a local water main break. The broken main was repaired, and tank levels have returned to normal.

Customers may resume normal use of their tap water. Access to bottled water and a water tanker is no longer available at Pennsylvania American Water's Butler water treatment plant.
