Rock holds off Lakers

Slippery Rock University's baseball team jumped out to an 8-0 lead Sunday and held off Mercyhurst 12-7 in PSAC-West action.

Derek DiRuscia went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI and Matt Kosik 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and scored two runs to lead the way.

Matt Howard, Adam Jury and Jacob Oswalt chipped in with two hits apiece and Carter Haponski and Jamison Walck had two RBI each for The Rock (21-20, 13-11).

Casey Quinn netted six goals and Samantha Eddy scored back-to-back goals in an 11-second span as SRU downed Seton Hill 12-10 Saturday.Amy Halls added two goals while Emma Vandenburg and Ariel Knox also scored for SRU (7-8).

The SRU women's squad picked up wins in five events at the Ed Fry Invitational at Indiana (Pa.) University Saturday, led by Tiffany Tedesco, who won the 100 (12.26 seconds) and 200 (25.52) and ran a leg of the winning 400 relay (49.07).She was joined by Rachel Knapp, Allison Smith and Amanda Seigworth in the winning relay.Smith also won the 400 hurdles, posting an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:02.13 while Kaela Snyder won the 800 (2:19.75).In the men's meet, Chris Waring won the discus with a provisional qualifying distance of 49.90 meters and was second in the hammer throw (47.57).Other winners included Joel Peters in the hammer throw (51.54), Kevin Jewel the 800 (1:55.47, to lead a 1-2-3 finish by The Rock) and Matt Antis in the pole vault (t-3.96).Slippery Rock High graduate Ethan Geisler picked up a pair of top-five finishes — second in the 400 hurdles (55.77) and fifth in the 110 hurdles (15.86).Geisler was joined by Mason McLaughlin (Butler), James Sims and Dan Henry to place fifth in the 400 relay (43.82).
