Richard W. Snyder

Richard W. Snyder, 77, of Greenville, formerly of Allison Park, passed away at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday at UPMC Horizon in Greenville following a lengthy fight against cancer.

Born Jan. 1, 1937, in Forestville, he was a son of the late Chester Monroe and Mary Jameson Snyder.

Richard was a graduate of Slippery Rock High School, and then he graduated from Slippery Rock University with a bachelor's of science degree.

Dick worked as an LPN for many years at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was a very caring and compassionate oncology department nurse. While working at Allegheny General Hospital, he won the prestigious President's Award for Excellence in Nursing.

Surviving are three brothers, John Roy Snyder and his friend, Jan, of Mercer, Leo Snyder and his wife, Loretta, of Rockville, Md., and Paul Snyder and his wife, Sandra, of Zepher Hills, Fla; a sister, Marybelle Montgomery of Grove City; two sisters-in-law, Eleda Snyder of Forestville and Mary Snyder of Long Island N.Y.

He had a special place in his heart for and is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He has a very special bond with two of his nieces, Valerie and Vickie Montgomery of Brewer, Maine.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Francis Snyder, Chester Monroe Snyder Jr., William Snyder, and Donald Snyder; two sisters, Lois Ann Snyder and Ruth Ester Snyder; a sister–in-law, Dorothy Snyder, and a brother-in-law William Montgomery.

Snyder — The family and friends of Richard W. Snyder, who passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, will welcome guests from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Jamison Funeral Home Inc., 117. N. Main St., Harrisville.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church in Forestville by the Rev. Kevin G. Poecking, pastor of the church.
