Locals show talents in new books, CD

Books and music have been released by area residents and natives.

'Geechee Girls'Lisa Harris, author and Butler County Community College instructor, won first place in fiction at The Author's Zone Awards in Pittsburgh in October for her novel “Geechee Girls.”The story is set in Georgia's low country where two girls, one white and one black, share their secrets.In addition, her novel, “Allegheny Dream,” set in Pennsylvania, was awarded finalist status in the same competition.The Butler resident was born in Snow Shoe, Pa., a small town in Centre County.Both novels are available in paperback form online.She is at work on three novels: “Thread,” “Stars Fell,” and a sequel to “Geechee Girls.”

<b>'Things Not Seen'</b>Grove City College professor of English Eric Potter has published “Things Not Seen,” a book of original poetry.Ranging widely from rock concert to communion, from the stray dog of faith to the results of a mammogram, the works address issues of doubt and longing, the desire for certainty, the presence of mystery, and the struggle in, of, and for faith.Potter teaches creative writing, American literature and modern poetry at Grove City. He has had two previous volumes of poetry published: “Heart Murmur” and “Still Life,” both in 2010.“Things Not Seen” is published by Resource Publications and available at www.wipfandstock.com, online retailers or the college bookstore.<b>'Bye, Have Nice!'</b>Twenty-year-old Angelo Fiaretti, who attended classes in the South Butler County School District, is now known as Mighty, the Atlanta-based, music maker of off-kilter garage rock.His lyrics deal with the subjects of revenge daydreams, paranoia and self discovery.In 2013, Fiaretti moved to Atlanta looking for a fresh perspective and new collaborators. There the young songwriter connected with Daniel Gleason of Grouplove, who produced his debut Mighty CD “Bye, Have Nice!”The CD features five tracks that were recorded over five days.
