Sears to close this summer at Clearview Mall
CENTER TWP — The Clearview Mall will lose another major retailer this summer. Sears will close in July.
The closure marks the third major retailer to exit the shopping center in the past two years. Bon-Ton left the mall in October of 2014 after having been a mall mainstay since 1982. And late last year Dick's Sporting Goods left the mall for a new location on New Castle Road in Butler Township.
The mall, which opened in 1981 and is owned by J.J. Gumberg Co., has more than 60 stores but has lost various attractions starting in 2014. That year the mall also lost Clearview Mall Cinemas and The Asian Buffet, which had been one of its largest restaurants.
The mall replaced Bon-Ton with Illinois-based farm supply store Rural King in August last year.
Mall officials say they have a replacement for Dick's lined up as well, but haven't said what that is. The mall also added the Mexican restaurant Compadres to its list of tenants this year.
Remaining anchor stores include Boscov's, J.C. Penney and T.J. Maxx.
