Margaret E. Wharton

Margaret E. Wharton, 99, of Butler passed away on Friday at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born June 8, 1919, in Sharon, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Joseph H. Rinck and the late Agnes Lonie Rinck.

Margaret was a 1937 graduate of Sharon High School. She then attended Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing for two years and completed her post graduate study at the University of Pittsburgh.

Margaret served as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps during World War II.

She then worked as a nurse for Dr. Hunt, then Dr. Laureano, followed by Dr. Prassad, retiring in 1995.

Margaret was a charter member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Butler, where she served as an elder, was a member of the Women's Association and Hearts and Hands Ministry, and taught both youth and adult Sunday school.

Most recently, she was a member of Unionville Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

She was an avid reader.

She is survived by her three daughters, Linda (Gary) Warren of Midlothian, Va., Barbara (Donald) Layton of West Sunbury, and Kathy (Thomas) Hepfl of Butler; four grandchildren, Eric (Karen) Warren of Charlottesville, Va., Craig (Sarah) Warren of Erie, Jennifer Hepfl of Butler, and Brian (fiancée Angela) Hepfl of Butler; six great-grandchildren, Lexi and Emily Warren, Jack and Reid Warren, Evan Hepfl, and Reese Hepfl; and one niece, Judy (George) Hipple of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.

She also considered Colby Layton and Lucas and Jacob Menees as part of the family, and through the years, they have been included in many family activities and celebrations.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Wharton, whom she married on July 19, 1946, and who passed away on Sept. 1, 1992; and one brother, Robert Rinck.

WHARTON — Per her wishes, there will be no visitation for Margaret E. Wharton, who died Friday, Aug. 31, 2018.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Unionville Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1114 Sunset Drive, Butler, with the Rev. Matthew Kail officiating.Private burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery in Sandy Lake, Pa.Arrangements are being handled by Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E.
