BUTLER TWP — Two alleged Philadelphia drug dealers were caught napping — literally — in a pickup truck illegally parking in a handicap spot at a convenience store.

Among the cache of contraband that Butler Township police would eventually seize during the sleepy suspects' early Thursday morning arrest were bags of methamphetamine and Ecstasy, and more than $1,000 in currency.

One of the alleged traffickers also had a welfare benefits Access card.

Both suspects — 46-year-old Gregory Charles Brown and 41-year-old Eric Ugean Moutrie — are being held in the Butler County Prison on a list of felony and other charges.

Brown, it turned out, was already out on bail in an out-of-county felony drug case, according to court records.

A Butler police officer on patrol about 2:35 a.m. first spotted the suspects in a pickup at the Sheetz store parking lot on Center Avenue near the city-township line.

He notified township police, who would soon find Brown and Moutrie dozing in the truck. Officers had to repeatedly knock on the windows and shine their flashlights before awakening the men.

The defendants, documents said, told officers they had driven to Butler County to “meet some girls for the day” before driving back to Philadelphia.

But before their return trip, they decided to catch some sleep.

Brown, who was in the driver's seat, admitted he did not have a placard for the handicap spot in which his truck was parked.

He also initially gave police a false birth date when they tried to identify him. That led police to search him, which led them to a large wad of money in one of his pants pockets, documents said.

One of the officers, while speaking to Moutrie noticed a plastic bag near his front passenger seat. The bag contained eight other smaller baggies, which appeared to have white powder in them.

A subsequent search of Moutrie turned up more bags of suspected drugs. Still more alleged narcotics were found when police looked through the truck.

Field tests of the drugs, documents said, would preliminarily identify them as methamphetamine and the hallucinogenic party drug MDMA, also known as Ecstasy.

Brown and Moutrie were holding $595 and $657, respectively, in currency.

Moutrie also had a Pennsylvania Access card with his name on it, and two receipts that showed he had used the card Tuesday at a Philadelphia grocery store.

District Judge Kevin O'Donnell later that morning arraigned Brown and Moutrie on multiple felony and misdemeanor drug possession charges.

Additionally, Brown is charged with false identification to law enforcement authorities and parking in a handicap space.

Preliminary hearings for the defendants are set June 8.

Court records showed Brown, who has four felony drug convictions, is awaiting trial in Bedford County in another felony drug case.

State police arrested him in that pending case March 21. He was placed in the Bedford County Prison but released three weeks later after posting $115,000 cash bail.
