Thomas F. Gainan, 96, of Cabot, formerly of Brentwood, passed away Friday at the Good Samaritan Hospice.

Born Sept. 10, 1918, in Young-stown, Ohio, Tom was the son of Frank and Beatrice (McKenna) Gainan, and brother of the late Philip Gainan.

Tom married Edna (Hoehl) Gainan on July 20, 1946. During their 68-year marriage, Tom and Edna traveled extensively to almost every state in the union and cruised to the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe.

Tom graduated from Youngstown’s Rayen High School in 1937 and attended Youngstown College. He moved to Pittsburgh and worked as a steel inspector at the US Steel Irvin Works in Dravosburg for 37 years before embarking on an active retirement. Tom and Edna enjoyed many community and family activities and vacations.

Tom is survived by his son, Tom Gainan of Sandown, N.H.; his granddaughter, Marylyn (Jason) Gainan of Leominster, Mass.; and his grandson, Mark Gainan of Portland, Ore. He also leaves his niece, Jeanne (Bob) Hauer of Cabot; as well as his nephew, Dr. Phil Gainan and family of Youngstown. In addition, he is survived by his nephew, George Hoehl and family; as well as nieces, Marilyn, Teresa and Kathy.

In addition to his parents and the late Edna Gainan, Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Philip (Louise) Gainan; and by his daughter-in-law, Caroline Gainan. Additionally, he was preceded by Edna’s late brothers and sisters.

GAINAN — There will be no visitation for Thomas F. Gainan, who died Friday, April 3, 2015.A funeral service will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home, 410 W.
