School of the Arts
The Associated Artists of Butler County, whose stated mission is to encourage, foster and promote the arts in Butler County, will hold an opening reception for its annual Butler County High School Art Exhibit from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at The Art Center, 344 S. Main St.
Admission is free, and light refreshments will be served.
Invited artists include art students from intermediate and senior high schools in Butler County.
More than $500 in cash awards will be presented to the winners in the following categories: painting (oil, acrylic and watercolors); drawing (pencil, pen and ink, and pastels); photography and digital art; mixed media and collage, three dimensional (sculpture, fiber art & ceramics), and printmaking.
The winners have not yet been announced.
This exhibit is organized by local art teachers, including:• Butler Senior High School, Jon Pugliese and Anne Wilson• Butler Intermediate High School, Holly Bly, Erich Campbell and Britta Manges• Karns City High School, Carol Berteotti• Knoch High School, Diane Geist• Mars High School, Rita Johnson and Erin Sloan• Moniteau High School, Heidi Wirtner• Seneca Valley High School, Megan Bonistalli, Jim Nagle and Jason Shorr.Being shown in the Members Gallery are paintings by James Hulings of Zelienople.He works in oils, acrylics and colored pencil to create vibrant images and landscapes. His works include "Dutch Sunset," "Cancun Lighthouse" and "Strawberry Hole."The exhibit continues through March 26 during normal operating hours of noon to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, noon to 9 p.m. Fridays, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Also, The Art Center is hosting free art classes. The upcoming schedule is: Saturday, "Foam Fun!" from noon to 1 p.m.; "Paper Dolls" from 1 to 2 p.m.; and "3D Painting!" from 2 to 4 p.m.On March 20, the free classes will be "Stuffed Monsters!" from noon to 1 p.m.; "Eric Carle Animals" from noon to 1:30 p.m., and Wax Resist Paintings from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
