FAB Showcase offers music, art and more

Elementary school student artwork of the Mona Lisa and more draws a crowd at last year's FAB Showcase. This year's celebration of Fine Arts and Beyond begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Butler Intermediate High School.

Butler Intermediate High School hosts the 2011 FAB (fine arts and beyond) Showcase from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Attendees can enjoy artwork, a silent auction, raffle baskets and live music, among other activities.

Thousands of pieces of artwork and several raffle baskets will be on display for people to make bids. Tickets for the basket raffle will be available for $1 each or $20 for a roll of 30.

The silent auction will include many items donated by businesses in the community.

Artists at work will include Ryan Benedetti, Tom Panei and Lisa Sten.

Demonstrations will be presented by Holly Bly, mosaics; Jon Pugliese, painting; and Anne Wilson, pastels.

Students will show artwork and give technology presentations.

Live musical performances will feature the Butler Strolling Strings and several school choral groups and bands.

Tuffy the Tornado will be on hand to entertain and other activities will include face painting. Butler County Commissioner Dale Pinkerton also will be in attendance dressed as a clown to make balloon animals for children.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation.

Michael Strutt, assistant superintendent for grades seven to 12 in the Butler School District, said: “There are two main goals of the Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation. They are to raise funds to support student scholarships and support creative teaching grants to fund projects for teachers.”

Strutt said the foundation gave out 35 $1,000 dollar scholarships to graduating seniors last year.

Parking and admission are free. Refreshments will be available in the cafeteria.
