John Cox III
John Hamilton Cox III left our presence to be with the Lord on Thursday, after an extended illness. Mr. Cox was born July 18, 1933, in Glasgow, Pa., to the late Melvin Charles and Anna Margaret Garvey Cox.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Delores Marie Cox O'Brien and Anne Margaret Cox Roberts; his brother, Charles Melvin Cox; and his daughter, Linda Joan Hamilton Cox.
Surviving are his two brothers, Paul Michael Cox (Cathy) of Allison Park, Pa., and James Ronald Cox (Ann) of Melbourne, Fla.; his two children, John Hamilton Cox IV of Fisher, Pa., and Catherine Cox Byrd of Atkinson, Ga.; his grandchildren, Todd Jason “TJ” Nicewonger (Trisha) of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., Rachel Grace Nupher of Brookville, Pa., Heather Rebecca Cox of Greenville, Pa., John Hamilton “L.J.” Cox V (Stormie) of Lyndora, Jeremiah Hamilton Byrd of Atkinson, Ga., and Joshua Eugene Byrd (Ashley) of Atkinson, Ga.; and special nephew, Henry Roberts.
Also surviving are 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cox served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, and remained a patriot throughout his life. He was a member of the American Legion Post 66 and the Knights of Columbus.
He graduated from Robert Morris College, which allowed for a lifelong career in corporate finance and accounting.
He was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Slippery Rock, which is where he made his home after retirement from his extensive career.
He was an avid sports fan, both college and professional. His most enjoyable time was spent visiting with his family and at his camp in Green Oaks as he loved the outdoors.
His sense of humor and scholarly discussions will be missed dearly by his many friends and family.
