Beryl E. Sloan Bloom Gilliland, 89, of Prospect passed away Monday, Feb. 14, 2022, while under the care of Magnolia Place in Saxonburg.

Born at home on Dec. 2, 1932, in Prospect, she was the daughter of the late Harry Sloan and Clara Shiever Sloan.

Beryl and her first husband, Arno, were married at her family’s church, Mount Nebo Presbyterian Church, before becoming lifetime members at the Meridian United Presbyterian Church.

Beryl was a secretary at Center Avenue School, and then a teacher’s aide at Connoquenessing Elementary School. She then moved her secretarial duties to the prothonotary's office in the courthouse, and later became the secretary for Judge Floyd Rauschenberger and Judge John Dillon.

In addition to working for the county, Beryl loved spending evenings helping her family at the Butler Florist. Beryl enjoyed traveling, gardening and, above all, cooking for her family. She will be remembered as a woman who loved helping others. Beryl will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

Beryl leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Douglas (Joan) Bloom of Seaford, Del., Edward Bloom of Butler, and Cynthia Kniess of Harmony; her grandchildren, Luke, Andy (Dana), Katie (Jason), Tim (Lauren) and Jessica (Justin); her 10 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Bud Sloan of Prospect, Mabel Giles of Meadville, Ruth Spack of Butler and Jean (Ernie) Oesterling of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Beryl was preceded in death by her first husband of 40 years, Arno C. Bloom, whom she married in May, 1953, and who passed away on Dec. 13, 1993; her second husband, Edward Gilliland, whom she married on Jan. 1, 2000, and who passed away on Dec. 30, 2021; two sisters; four brothers; and an infant sister.

GILLILAND — Friends of Beryl E. Sloan Bloom Gilliland, who died Monday, Feb. 14, 2022, will be received from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. Sunday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER OF CONNOQUENESSING TOWNSHIP, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew, with Pastor Steve Franklin of Meridian United Presbyterian Church officiating.

Beryl will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Burial Estates in Butler.
