Lawrence James 'Curtie' Curtis
Lawrence James “Curtie” Curtis, 91, of Chicora passed away Monday surrounded by his family in Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 25, 1926, in Moon Run, Pittsburgh, he was the son of Russell and Anna Leihgaber.
He entered the U.S. Navy Sept. 7, 1944, and was discharged June 15, 1946, achieving the rank of Seaman 1st Class. He then worked for Penreco as a pumper.
He was a member of Happy Hunters in Fenelton, the American Legion in Lyndora and the VFW Sportsman Club in Sheffield, Pa. He was a loyal member of the Chicora Senior Center where he like to play cards — 500 bid. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to camp, bricklaying and building homes. He particularly delighted and was proud of his family and grandchildren. He spent many enjoyable hours refinishing gun stocks.
Curtie married the love of his life, Eileen E. Young Curtis, July 5, 1948. She died April 1, 2009.
He is survived by a son, Larry (Sharon) Curtis of Chicora, Kathy (Michael) Franko of Butler, Margie (Gary) Slater of Chicora; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a sister, Louella McElhaney; and a brother, Edward Mahood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William; and his sisters, June and Penny.
CURTIS — Friends of Lawrence James “Curtie” Curtis, who died Monday, April 16, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora.A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Thursday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church with the Rev.
