Man charged with threatening mother
A Harrisville man is in jail without the possibility of bail after he allegedly threatened his mother with a shotgun and spat in the face of an arresting officer.
Dominic A. Parenti, 33, was arrested by state police following a Thursday night domestic dispute at a Main Street apartment.
District Judge Bill O'Donnell arraigned Parenti Friday and denied bail on the grounds that he was a danger to himself and the community. Parenti remains in Butler County Prison.Parenti has been charged with felony assault by a prisoner and six misdemeanors, including simple assault, terroristic threats, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.According to charging documents, the incident was initially reported by the Center for Community Resources Crisis Hotline.Police said the hotline operator relayed information from a call with Parenti's mother. The operator told police the mother was trying to get help for Parenti, who she believed was mentally unstable while under the influence of drugs and alcohol.Police said the situation then escalated when Parenti pointed a loaded 12-guage shotgun at his mother's head.“(The mother) immediately fled the living quarters of her residence and locked herself in the bathroom,” police said.A warrant for involuntary commitment was issued, and police made contact with the mother before and after they arrived on scene by calling her cell phone.Police said when they arrived, the mother was still in the bathroom, despite at least one attempt by her son to break in the door.According to police, the mother told state police Parenti was trying to force police to shoot him in a suicide attempt.“(The mother) also provided more details to include Dominic stating to her, 'I'll shoot and kill them first. Then, they can kill me next.'”The mother told police she was afraid to leave the bathroom because Parenti was breaking things and shouting. Police said as the scene became quieter, the mother made her escape, at which point she saw Parenti asleep on the couch with the shotgun nearby.Once free from the house, the mother talked with police outside, giving them some additional information. She confirmed Parenti pointed the gun at her, and she said he was yelling at her while trying to break into the bathroom.Police said they entered the home and arrested Parenti, who was still on the couch. They said there was a brief struggle to get Parenti into handcuffs.“As Dominic was restrained in handcuffs and being brought to the Pennsylvania State Police marked patrol unit outside, Dominic (spat) in the face of (a state trooper,) who was dressed in full Pennsylvania State Police uniform,” the report said.Police said the spit flew into the trooper's eyes, and Parenti told police he had Hepatitis C, which his mother also corroborated. The trooper was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for testing. After the arrest, police said they found a small pill bottle in Parenti's pocket. The bottle contained three Xanax pills.A preliminary hearing for the case has been scheduled June 23 before O'Donnell.
