The Butler School Board voted unanimously to purchase new control modules for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems of Emily Brittain Elementary School and Broad Street Elementary School on Monday at its monthly meeting.

Quantum Controls Group, based in Jeannette, will install Ethernet-accessible modules supported by Honeywell and connect them to the Butler School District’s local area network.

The cost is $9,650 for each school for a total of $19,300.

The computer system that ran the HVAC systems for both schools had crashed, causing the need for a new one.

The sale of the Broad Street school to the Arc of Butler County, a nonprofit aimed at helping people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, was approved in August.

School board officials said they are separating the Broad Street computer system from the Emily Brittain system so when the building is passed on to the Arc, the new owners will have full control of their own system.
