FAIRVIEW TWP — A fire Friday afternoon destroyed a split-level house along Kittanning Pike northeast of Chicora.

A woman walked to an ambulance and was taken away.

The fire, which was reported at 1:47 p.m., apparently started in the garage and spread to the house.

Firefighters from about six fire departments are on the scene because of the need for water tank trucks in the rural area.

The Chicora Volunteer Fire Department is the lead department at the scene.
