Freeport School District hires new superintendent

BUFFALO TWP — The Freeport School District has a new superintendent.

Chris DeVivo, who was hired by the Freeport School Board Wednesday, has not only been a superintendent, principal and teacher, but he also has been a director of human resources, a career pathways coordinator and an interim athletic director.

DeVivo, 43, who is the superintendent of Marion Center School District in Indiana County, said his focus for the first year is excellence in education.

"My main priorities are to maintain high quality instruction and improve student achievement," he said.

DeVivo will be paid $124,000 in the first year of a three-year contract.

His predecessor, Stan Chapp, leaves Friday to be the new superintendent at the Armstrong School District.
