Driver sentenced in road rage incident
SLIPPERY ROCK — A Gibsonia man accused of flashing his gun during an Interstate 79 road rage incident accepted a plea agreement Wednesday in district court.
Joseph A. McLean, 48, pleaded guilty to two summary offenses, harassment and disorderly conduct.
McLean was arrested and charged May 7 after a father and son traveling alongside him accused him of pointing a gun at them during a stretch of Interstate 79 in Worth Township.
McLean initially was charged with four misdemeanors: terroristic threats, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.
As part of the agreement, McLean completed anger management treatment and surrendered his concealed carry permit to the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office.
Assistant District Attorney David Beichner said McLean will try to sell the gun first, but if that's not possible he will have it legally destroyed.
“It's not going to be retained by him, per agreement,” Beichner said.
Neither McLean nor his attorney Matthew Ness had further comment.
According to charging documents, McLean told officers he was moving the gun to a more accessible position because he felt his life was in danger. He told police the people in the other vehicle flashed an obscene hand gesture at him and came close to hitting his vehicle.
